Some studies suggest that MCT oil can make you feel fuller and suppress your appetite and it does this by promoting the release of two hormones. There are also studies across the board that don’t show it suppresses your appetite at all. So, studies are mixed in regards eating less calories.

MCT oil has been shown by researchers that you can burn fat instead of carbs for exercise. A study was done on athletes who took 6 grams of MCT oil with food before they started cycling. They used more fat instead of carbs for energy compared to the group taking LCT’s.

Bodyfat
It is important to know that the difference wasn’t that significant. There was a randomly controlled trial among men who consumed MCT’s, and they were able to burn more fat during exercise. There are also studies that have shown that there was no change in body fat after taking MCT’s.

Cognition
A study showed that taking MCT’s for 30 days helped to improve cognition in people that have Alzheimer’s disease. A metanalysis of about 12 studies have shown that MCT’s can improve cognition in people that have Alzheimer’s disease.

Blood Sugar Control
There was a small study that was done in 2007 on 40 people who had diabetes. This study revealed a reduction in bodyweight, waist circumference, insulin resistance, etc. There was a review study where a group consumed coconut oil that was high in MCT’s. It showed improvement in after meal blood sugar control.

Heart Health
It is important to understand if you are mindful of your heart health that MCT’s is high in saturated fats. And if you are consuming a high amount of MCT’s it can increase your risk of heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends getting about 6 to 8% of your calories from saturated fat to maintain a healthy heart.

The Bottom Line is some of the benefits of MCT oil is boosting your energy levels and improving cognition in people that have Alzheimer’s disease, etc.
