Is eggs dairy? Many people think eggs are a dairy product, but they are not considered in the dairy category. Dairy is when foods are created from mammals like goats or crows. Eggs are produced by birds, and they are not considered mammals.  So that is why it is not considered a form of dairy.

Egg is a high protein food that is consumed most of the time during breakfast. Eggs don’t contain any form of lactose milk which means if you are lactose intolerant you shouldn’t have any issue digesting eggs regularly.

Eggs are a great weight loss food because they are high in nutrients and low in calories. Studies have shown that eating eggs for breakfast regularly can make you eat fewer calories.

Here are the Nutrient Facts of one Large Egg:

  • Calories- 78
  • Protein- 6 grams
  • Fat- 5 grams
  • Carbs- 1 gram
  • Selenium- 28% of the Daily Value
  • Riboflavin- 20% of the Daily Value
  • Vitamin B12- 23% of the Daily Value

I think the reason people get confused about eggs and dairy is because they have several things in common. They are both high in protein and are animal products.

About 75 to 80% of people in this world are lactose intolerant which means they have problems digesting lactose. Some of the symptoms of being lactose intolerant are bloating, cramps, diarrhea, gas, etc.

Fortunately eating eggs shouldn’t give you these symptoms even if you have problems digesting lactose types of foods.

The Bottom Line is eggs are not considered a dairy product, but it is confusing for a lot of people. Because eggs are high in protein, and they are produced by animals. So many people think it is a dairy product when it really isn’t.
