Why am I not losing weight on Ozempic? First of all, Ozempic is a Type 2 diabetes prescription drug and one of the side effects is weight loss. How it works is it suppresses your appetite by slowing your digestion. Ozempic contains an active ingredient called semaglutide and it acts like a hormone called GLP-1 in the body.

GLP-1 helps stimulate insulin production, reduces the production of the glucose by the liver while slowing the digestion process making you fuller.

Some of the reasons some people are not losing weight on Ozempic are the following:

  • If you are taking other medications that don’t interact well with Ozempic that could affect your weight loss progress.
  • If you have horrible lifestyle habits meaning that you are not exercising. And if you are consuming a lot of bad food and calories that can make it difficult to lose weight. Ozempic isn’t a magic weight loss pill and what it does is it suppresses your appetite making you fuller, so you eat less.
  • You are taking inadequate dosages meaning taking lower than the minimum amount to achieve effectiveness. The normal doses are anywhere between 0.25mg to 0.55mg per week.

Research studies have shown that most people who lose weight on Ozempic regain weight back after a year. And one of the main reasons is the lifestyle habits of exercise and diet haven’t improved at all.

For the people that want to go the Ozempic route to help with weight loss they need to understand that weight loss doesn’t happen without being in a caloric deficit. A caloric deficit means burning more calories than you consume.

A healthy diet to follow if you are trying to lose weight whether you are on Ozempic or not is:

  • Eating fruits like bananas, oranges, apples, strawberries, etc.
  • Eating vegetables like spinach, broccoli, asparagus, green beans,
  • Whole grains like barley. millet, wheat bread, oatmeal,
  • Lean proteins like chicken, turkey, fish, beef, steak.
  • Good healthy fats like almonds, peanuts, pistachios, avocado, etc.

For exercise you should incorporate cardiovascular and weight training workouts. Some good cardiovascular workout options are walking, jogging, gardening, jump roping, cycling, swimming, dancing.

Some good weight training workout options are body weight workouts, resistance band workouts, dumbbell weights, weight-lifting machines, etc. People that take Ozempic need to understand that it will not work if you are consuming more calories than you burn. And doing this defeats the purpose of a caloric deficit.

Ozempic should only be taken by the guidance and prescription of healthcare professionals. They will be able to determine the appropriate dosage and monitor its effects on your blood sugar levels.

The Bottom Line is Ozempic is a type 2 diabetes drug and one of its side effects is weight loss. Ozempic suppresses your appetite which will make you eat less food. The people that don’t lose weight on Ozempic is because they don’t exercise regularly, or their diet is bad. Another reason is they are on other medications that don’t interact well with Ozempic.
