Why do people sweat when they eat meat? If you sweat while eating meat, try not to let it worry you because it is common if you eat a large amount of meat at one time. A common allergic reaction when it comes to eating protein is called anaphylaxis. It is when a small amount of protein causes immediate symptoms like hives, rashes, or severe digestive symptoms.

Other symptoms can be itching, runny nose, diarrhea, etc. Most food allergies are caused by peanuts, shellfish, fish, cow milk, etc. There is a research study that revealed a couple of years ago that a bite tick can cause a food allergy to red meat.

When you eat meat or any similar food you expend extra energy breaking down that food. And this type of energy causes heat and it is called the thermic effect of food.

Protein has the most powerful thermic effect as the more protein you eat the more energy is required to digest it. The thermal effect of protein is about 20 to 30%. So, it is possible to eat large amounts of meat at one time which requires a lot of energy. And the way your body cools itself down is to sweat. And you don’t have to have a food allergy to sweat while eating meat.

There was a study that showed that your body uses more energy breaking down animal protein than vegetable protein like soy.

Preventing Meat Sweats

One way to prevent meat sweats is to spread eating your meals throughout the day and try eating less meat. The less food you eat the less energy that is expended which means you will sweat less.

The Bottom Line is meat sweating shouldn’t make you feel concerned at all as it is common if your large amount of meat at one time. The best way to prevent meat sweats is to use less of it or spread your eating your meals throughout the day.
