Can weed make you lose weight? Well, I am sure this will be a very popular topic among weed lovers. There is no validated research evidence that shows that if you smoke weed it will help you lose weight. There was a 2011 review study on obesity and smoking marijuana and that study showed that the rates of obesity were higher among people who did not use cannabis.

Another review study showed that cannabis users had a lower body mass index and lower obesity rates. But it also showed an increase in calorie intake. This may be because of it making you have the munchies.

Some of the positive things that can cannabis help with is:

  • It can improve mobility, stiffness, and pain.
  • It has been shown to decrease anxiety and relax the body and mind.
  • There is some evidence it can help improve sleep.

When people think about smoking weed, they always think about giving you the munchies. It makes you want to snack on a lot of junk food. There was an interesting study on this where the states where cannabis is legal saw an increase in sales of junk food in those respective states.

That study although interesting doesn’t mean that cannabis was the reason for an increase in sales in junk food in those cannabis legal states. The THC psychoactive compound that produces weed’s high has been shown to trigger hunger. It is one of the reasons why people use cannabis as an appetite stimulant.

It is important to know that cannabis has the same risks as smoking tobacco such as cancer-causing agents according to the American Lung Association. Also, because weed smokers hold in their breath more than cigarettes, they are more exposed to tar than regular cigarette smokers.

Another danger of smoking weed is it reduces your respiratory functions and increases your risk for airway inflammation. And it also increases your risk of chronic bronchitis. So, try to be mindful of the potential dangers of smoking weed at a high consumption level. In closing there is no tied scientific evidence of weed and weight loss.

The Bottom Line is there is no validated research evidence that shows that smoking cannabis will make you lose weight. But it may increase your appetite to want to snack more on junk food than you would if you weren’t smoking weed.
