Again during a 72-hour water fast you are supposed to not eat any food except drinking water. Most people drink about 2 to 3 liters of water daily when they are doing a water fast. Anything longer than 72 hours is not advisable to do a water fast. In fact, before you do a fast it is advisable to check with your medical provider and make sure this won’t affect your health wise. Especially if you have a preexisting health condition.

Reducing Blood Pressure Levels
If you plan to do a water fast, it is best to prepare your body for it by lowering your daily calories. Research studies show that medical supervised water fasts can help lower blood pressure levels in people that have high blood pressure.
A study that was done for 17 days on 48 people that were either overweight or obese showed it lowered their systolic blood pressure levels in that 17-day period. It gives you an idea of how influential water fasting could be at lower blood pressure levels if you have high blood pressure.

Heart Disease
There has been some small evidence that found that water fasting can help reduce the risk of heart disease. There was a 2013 research study on 30 people that were healthy, they did a water fast for 24 hours and it significantly lowered their triglyceride blood levels.
Some studies have shown that water fasting can possibly protect the heart against damage from free radicals.

Some of the negative effects of doing a 3-day water fast are the following:
• Dehydration
• Nausea
• Headaches
• Constipation
• Dizziness
• Low Energy Levels
Will you lose weight doing a 3-day water fast?
Yes, you will lose weight doing a 3-day water fast, but it will be water loss and not fat loss. Once you start eating solid foods again you will gain the weight back. You can lose up to 7 to 8 pounds in 3 days doing a water fast, but it is water loss and not bodyfat loss.

The Bottom Line is a 3-day water fast is when you don’t eat any food except for drinking water. And you would be drinking 2 to 3 liters of water daily during this water fast.
Some people do this for religious purposes, weight loss, medical procedures, detoxing, etc. It is important to know not everybody can have a 3-day water fast and you should contact your medical provider before even thinking about doing this.
