An interesting study showed that people who consumed less than 3 grams of sodium were more likely to have heart disease or die compared to people who consumed 4 to 5 grams of sodium per day.
Another research study showed that people who consumed more than 7 grams of sodium per day had a higher risk of heart disease and death compared to people who consumed 4 to 5 grams of sodium per day.
Outside of reducing your sodium intake when it comes to reducing your blood pressure levels you should exercise and eat right. Doing some form of cardiovascular activity such as walking, swimming, jogging helps with this. Or incorporating some form of resistance training exercise such as resistance bands training, weightlifting, pushups will also assist and help.
All these types of exercises will help with reducing your blood pressure levels along with reducing your sodium intake. Eating more fruits and vegetables will help with reducing your cholesterol and blood pressure levels.
There is a direct correlation between the number of calories you consume and the amount of sodium your intake. The more calories you consume the more sodium you will take in. Sodium is an essential nutrient your body needs. But the amount you take is important where it doesn’t become unhealthy. You should try to stay within the limits of 1.5 and 2.5 grams of sodium per day which is moderation to low levels.
The Bottom Line is 3 grams of sodium per day and is slightly above what most health professionals deem as healthy. If you can consume 1.5 and 2.5 grams of sodium per day that can help the lower risk of high blood pressure or heart disease.
