What are the health benefits of fresh thyme? Some of the more common health benefits are reducing the risk of acne, fighting infection, and regulating mucus. Thyme has been shown in research studies to alleviate coughing. A 2006 research study showed that taking thyme and ivy leaves helped to fight off coughing. A 2018 research study revealed that thyme and primula extracts reduced inflammation and mucus in an animal model.

A 2021 research study showed that thyme essential oil is protective against adult mosquitoes and their larvae. Thyme oil is an ingredient that is used in a lot of pesticides for indoor and outdoor. And it is used to target rats, mice, viruses, bacteria, and other similar pests.

Studies have shown that the compound in thyme oil which is carvacrol has been shown to improve serotonin and dopamine levels in a 2013 animal study. These two hormones are known to regulate mood.
