Is seltzer water good for you? Seltzer is a carbonated water beverage that contains plain water and carbon dioxide. Seltzer water is not bad for you as it hydrates the same way as non-carbonated water. One of the negative effects of seltzer water is doesn’t have fluoride. And fluoride can help prevent tooth decay.

Some of the side effects of drinking too much seltzer water is:

  • Diarrhea- It can disrupt your bowel and digestive system causing you to go the bathroom often and causing excess gas.
  • Bloating- gas in the water can cause your stomach to stick out.
  • Intestinal discomfort- Too much seltzer water or carbonated beverages can harm your gut health.

If you have a desire to want to consume seltzer water you want to make sure to be mindful that is limited in sugar, high fructose corn syrup, sodium, artificial flavorings, etc.

Some of the benefits of carbonated water or seltzer water is that it is similar to tap water. If you drink enough of this, it will suppress your appetite. And the result is causing you to eat less food and lose weight.

There have been some studies that have shown that carbonated beverages can harm your tooth enamel. Dental erosion happens when you have an acidic PH balance. Normal water has a PH at 7.0 while seltzer water is acidic with an average of 4.5.

On the positive note seltzer water is healthier than drinking soda and studies have shown that drinking soda puts you at risk of higher rates of bone fractures. If you consume seltzer water within moderation it shouldn’t affect the health of your teeth.

A research study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that carbonated waters does not impact bone health. According to the American Dental Association dental erosion happens in a PH range of 2.0 to 4.0.

The Bottom Line is seltzer water has similar benefits to drinking non-carbonated water such as the ability to hydrate your body at a rapid level. And another benefit is it slows your digestive system by suppressing your appetite and making you eat less food similar to drinking regular water.
