Splenda is one of the more common sucralose-based products and sucralose is considered a zero-calorie sweetener. Splenda is an artificial sweetener that is used in cooking and baking products as well as coffee and tea. One of the companies, Tate & Lyle & Johnson created Splenda products and it was introduced in the U.S in 1998. It is one of the more popular artificial sweeteners in the U.S.
In fact, I use it all the time in my coffee as a sugar substitute. Most people don’t know that Splenda contains dextrose and maltodextrin which increases the calorie content of it to 3.36 calories per gram.
Does sucralose lose affect blood sugar levels?
Most research studies show that sucralose has little to no effect on blood sugar and insulin levels. One small study showed that healthy adults that consumed sucralose daily experienced no impact on sugar metabolism or insulin sensitivity.
Can sucralose affect gut health?
A 7-day study showed that consuming high doses of sucralose did not alter the gut microbiome. There was a 2-week study that found that consuming 20% of the acceptable daily intake of sucralose per day had no effect on the beneficial bacteria in your gut.
Some of the review random controlled trials on sucralose and weight loss showed that artificial sweeteners reduced bodyweight by 1.7 pounds. Artificial sweeteners are always marketed as these phenomenal weight loss solutions because of the zero-calorie aspect of it. But they never say if you consume too much of it that it can cause health issues.
Sucralose is safe to take and even the FDA says it is safe to take if you consume it within moderation and don’t overconsume it. Sucralose isn’t a bad sugar substitute if you take Splenda in any of your food or baking products.
The Bottom Line is sucralose, a healthy sugar substitute if you consume it within moderation. Studies show that it has little to no effect on your blood sugar levels.
And it has no negative impact on your gut health, and it supports weight loss because of the 0-calorie aspect of it. If you consume too much of it, then it can cause negative health issues. So, consume it within moderation and you should be ok health wise.
