Some research has shown that silica that is consumed through foods isn’t accumulated in our bodies. But it is important to know it flushed out through our kidneys.

Lung disease which is a common chronic condition that can be caused by chronic inhalation of silica.  This exposure of this disease can be caused by people who worked in places such as construction, sandblasting, mining, steel industry, etc.

It is important to know that many of the studies done on silica were done on animals. And researchers have found no concrete evidence that links the food additive silicon dioxide with increased risk of cancer, organ damage, heart disease or death. Research studies have also found no evidence linking silicon dioxide in food that can affect birth weight, reproductive health, or bodyweight.

The U.S Food And Drug Administration has recognized silicon dioxide as a safe food additive.

It is important to know that silicon dioxide has always existed naturally throughout the earth and our bodies. It is safe to say that you shouldn’t consume more than 2% of a food’s total weight when it comes to silicon dioxide. The reason for this is amounts higher than this haven’t sufficiently studied enough yet.

The History of Silicon Dioxide

Silicon dioxide is recognized in the form of quartz, and it’s naturally found in water, plants, animals, and the earth. The earth’s crust is 59 percent silica, and it makes up 95% of known rocks on the planet. When you are sitting on the beach the sand that is on your butt or feet is in the form of silicon dioxide. Silicon dioxide is part of the earth and environment.

Two of the earth’s most abundant materials are silicon and oxygen.
