Will I die if I drink a gallon of milk? The idea of drinking too much milk and actually dying from it is hard to believe. Why? Because we were all taught when we were kids that drinking milk helps you grow tall.  And it helps to keep your bones strong. So how is it that you can drink too much milk and it can cause some internal health issues? Well let’s find out here below.

Will I die if I drink a gallon of milk?

What Health Issues Are Associated With Drinking Too Much Milk?

  • Drinking milk is not associated with death but excessive milk intake is associated with a 4% higher risk of coronary heart disease. There was a study that took place in Sweden in the 80’s and 90’s. And high milk consumption was associated with a higher mortality rate in both men and women.
  • Drinking a gallon of milk, a day would cause you a lot of gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, diarrhea, nausea. Drinking too much milk will put you at a higher risk of bone fractures.
  • There are some people that are lactose intolerant that can’t even digest milk properly. If your body can’t break it down properly because you are lactose intolerant, it will travel through the digestive system and get broken down by gut bacteria.
  • And when this happens the end result is diarrhea, constant gassing and bloating. According to the National Institutes of Health over 65% of adults have some form of lactose intolerant. And that means any form of dairy not just milk. So that is a large number of our society that has issues digesting any form of dairy whether it be milk, cheese, ice cream, etc.

How much is too milk?

Anything more than 3 glasses of milk per day would be too much. Adults need about 1000 to 1200 mg of calcium per day. So, drinking 3 glasses of milk per day will allow you to meet that daily requirement.

Why Should Young Kids Drink Milk Every Day?

Because milk and all dairy products contains the following vitamins and minerals that young growing kids need. Such as calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, phosphorous, magnesium, selenium, potassium, zinc, riboflavin, Vitamin B-12, choline, protein, etc.

The bottom Line: Milk has all the essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs to stay healthy.

But just like anything if you have too much it can cause internal health issues. So just be mindful to not drink too milk as if you are drinking a lot of water daily. Drinking too much milk will hurt you. It will not help you.
