Deadlifts are a great exercise to help build your lower back especially if you have lower back pain from time to time. Your form is so important when executing a deadlift because if you do this exercise incorrectly you could hurt your lower back.
If you are a beginner executing a deadlift, then it’s best to start off with light weight to understand how to execute the exercise correctly before increasing weight. You should only add weight once you have perfected your form in how to do the deadlift exercise.
How To Do A Deadlift:
Stand behind the barbell with your feet shoulder width apart. Keep your chest lifted while keeping your back straight. Try to bend forward and grip the barbell. As you are gripping the bar keep your feet planted on the ground and sink your hips back. While keeping your back flat push your hips forward to the starting position.
Finish standing with your legs, shoulders and back straight. And knees almost locked out while holding the bar with straight arms at lower than hip height. Try to return to the starting position by keeping your back straight, bending your knees and squatting down until the bar is on the floor.
Repeat this exercise again and aim for a goal of 10 to 12 reps per set depending on the amount of weight you are lifting. Aim for 3 sets.
