How often should you poop? Being able to poop regularly is a necessary and healthy thing. It allows you to empty waste from your diet from your intestines. Researchers have shown that having 3 bowel movements a day to 3 times a week is normal. If you don’t poop regularly it can cause severe internal health problems.

There are several factors that affect how frequently you poop and one of them is diet.

Diet– Consuming soluble and insoluble fiber in the forms of vegetables, fruits, whole grains can help add bulk to your stool. If you don’t consume this regularly it will decrease the amount of poop you produce regularly. Consuming fluids regularly makes your stool softer and easy to pass.

Age-The older you get the more likely you will constipate because of reduced gastric movement which encourages healthy digestion and reduced mobility.

If you have loose or watery stool it is indicative of digestive irritation.  And the results is your stool that is passing through your intestines too fast. This could be a potential problem because your body won’t be absorbing as many nutrients from your stool.

Negative Symptoms

If you experience these symptoms then you may need to seek emergency medical attention such as:

  • Blood in your stool that is either red or black.
  • Bad abdominal pain
  • No bowel movement in more than 3 days.
  • Vomiting blood

If you have these type of severe bowel problems, then you should consult a doctor and see what problem you may have internally.

Some other things that can help stimulate bowel are:

  • Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily that can help stimulate bowel movement.
  • Cut back on dairy products and limit it to 1 to 2 servings a day.
  • Exercise can act as a massage to promote bowel movement. And it can be any form of exercise whether it be low or high intensity.

Some of the health issues that can affect your bowel.

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Diverticulosis
  • Celiac disease
  • Having to take antibiotics or medications.

The Bottom Line is pooping is a healthy thing to do regularly. And if you do it regularly it means you are a normal and healthy person from a digestive perspective. Pooping regularly allows you to push out waste from your body. And it is important for pooping to move out of your intestines to your rectal in an efficient way to improve your overall health.
