Do cold showers help acne? There is no scientific evidence that cold showers can cure acne. One of the benefits of cold showers is it helps to reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, and help deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin. And the result is it can help improve skin health. Cold water can help tighten the skin and shrink pores, while improving the skin texture and tone.

Because cold water increases circulation it also helps to flush toxins and impurities from the skin. The cold water can help unclog the pores and reduce the production of excess sebum which can cause acne in the first place.

Professional dermatologists recommend using cold water as part of their skin health care to help keep your skin clear and healthy. Cold water helps to cleanse the skin while warm water helps open the pores, allowing dirt, bacteria, and oil.

While cold water tightens the pores while making it difficult for dirt and bacteria to penetrate the skin. Cold water helps to get rid of dead skin cells which can cause clogging and eventually lead to pimples.

What does cold water do to the skin?

  • Reduction of Inflammation- The temperature of cold water helps to reduce the inflammation of the skin caused by acne.  The cold temperature of water constricts blood vessels and reduces swelling.
  • Cleaning The Pores- This helps to tighten your pores and reduce the amount of dirt that is trapped in the skin. When you clean out the pores that helps to prevent breakouts happening.
  • Heighten Blood Circulation-The shock of the cold water can improve circulation in the body. When your circulation improves, it can help deliver more nutrients to your skin cells.

Cold water by itself will not help to cure acne by itself. Topical skin creams or medications would be the best thing to use to help with curing acne. Or if it’s really bad contact your local dermatologist to get a consultation.

The Bottom Line is cold showers do not cure acne based off research studies. But it will help to increase blood circulation, clean pores, and reduce inflammation.
