Is Vitamin Water good for you? Vitamin Water is an extremely popular drink that is loaded with a lot of added sugar, particularly fructose. Consuming a high amount of fructose has been linked to a lot of health issues. One 20 ounce of Vitamin Water contains about 120 calories and 32 grams of sugar.

Vitamin Water also contains crystalline fructose which is even worse for your health. Crystalline fructose is also known as cane sugar. Because it contains 98% pure fructose which is half the sugar content in coke.

Is Vitamin Water Good For You?

Consuming a high amount sweetened beverages and drinks like Vitamin Water puts you at a high-risk of chronic related diseases. Such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer, etc. There were studies that showed that there is a 60% increase in obesity in children for people that consume sweetened beverages.

From a health perspective it is advisable not to consume more than 10% of your daily calories in the form of added sugar. In fact, many health experts suggest it can be less than 5%. Added sugar is associated with Type 2 diabetes, tooth decay, heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, etc.

Excess fructose consumption can increase your blood cholesterol levels, triglycerides, blood pressure, fat build up around your organs. And it will also increase the risk of fatty liver disease.

Vitamin Water contains B Vitamins at 50% of the RDI, (Reference Daily Intake) and Vitamin C at 50% of the RDI. And it also contains lesser amounts of Vitamin A and Vitamin E. These vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are important for helping to fight off chronic diseases.

It doesn’t have a lot of vitamins, but it is better than nothing. That is probably the only healthy aspect of drinking Vitamin Water. The added sugar in Vitamin Water exceeds any small vitamins and minerals you may get from drinking it.

Coca Cola which bought Vitamin Water many years ago was sued because of its unsubstantiated health claims. Lawyers suggested that no consumer can be misled into thinking Vitamin Water is a healthy beverage. Just because the word vitamin is added to water doesn’t make it healthy.

The Bottom Line: Vitamin Water is not a healthy beverage despite some of the minimal vitamins and minerals you may receive from this. People need to look at Vitamin water as an alternative option to drinking soda.
